Donate a vehicle using CARS

Support Senior Gleaners and take care of that unwanted vehicle. You can donate many types of vehicles. Donors pay no fees and receive credit for tax deductions. Start the easy process on-line [by clicking below] or by phone: Toll-free at (855) 500-RIDE or (855) 500-7433.

CARS strives to accept all types of donated vehicles (running or not) including cars, trucks, trailers, boats, RVs, motorcycles, campers, off-road vehicles, planes, heavy equipment, farm machinery and most other motorized vehicles including ATV's and personal watercraft. CARS handles all the paperwork to sell the vehicle, sends you a receipt for tax purposes and mails proceeds to us.

  • Skip the hassles of selling that unused vehicle.
  • Free up space in your garage or driveway.

Save on federal taxes using your IRA distribution

Consider rolling over part of your IRA's required minimum distribution to Senior Gleaners. You will pay no income tax on your gift. Contact your IRA plan administrator to transfer funds to Senior Gleaners. The funds are excluded from your adjusted gross income.

NEW FOR 2021: Deduct a donation--even if you don't itemize

The CARES Act allows individual federal taxpayers who don't itemize to deduct up to $300 of qualified charitable contributions when computing their 2021 adjusted gross income--and up to $600 for a joint return.

Special Thanks to Donors

We greatly appreciate support from:

  • Our volunteers who give not only their time and talent but also (along with their family members and friends) provide our main source of donations. Besides funds via the options listed above, we have received bequests, vehicles and results of individual fund-raising events.
  • A number of residents who donate fruit to be picked PLUS financial contributions.

  • Annual grants over many years from the Matthew 25 Fund of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Pacifica Synod. Established by Jerry and Lynda Engelhardt to help the hungry and homeless and others in need--as described in Matthew 25: "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat...."

  • Many annual grants from the San Diego County Employees' Charitable Organization. Funded by employee donations, CECO has been lending a hand to the local community since 1956, distributing 100% of donations to non-profits and employees in need. Several SG volunteers are former county employees who donated to the fund while working.

  • Two grants from Las Patronas, a San Diego philanthropic organization formed in 1946. Las Patronas is committed to providing financial assistance to nonprofit organizations in San Diego County that provide valuable community services in the areas of health, education, social services, and cultural arts, and to continuing our tradition of service to enhance the quality of life in our community.
